Hello and welcome ............
The purpose of the program is to work with tenants and housing providers in non-profit and co-op social housing.
How is this done?...Well, through:
- Referrals - Connecting tenants and Housing Providers with services in the community
- Information - Providing information on community services, relevant legislation, OW/ODSP, other
- Mediation - Meeting with Housing Providers and or tenants to develop solutions to problems
- Home Visits - Meeting in person with tenants to offer supportive counseling and assist with the process of decision making and problem solving
With the vacancy rate now so low, losing housing can mean a long wait until other suitable housing comes along... so it's really important to keep the housing you have.
People lose their housing for many reasons. The most common ones are:
- Financial problems that lead to non-payment of rent
- Complaints from neighbours about noise or damage
- Personal problems such as alcohol and drug abuse that make it difficult to function day to day
- Conflict with other tenants
Fortunately there are many community services that can help in those areas and the Community Liaison Worker can help connect you with what you need.
It's best to contact the Community Liaison Worker before a situation gets out of hand and leads to an eviction.
That might mean calling if:
- You are starting to have a problem that might lead to an eviction
- You and your landlord have spoken about a particular problem in the past but nothing has changed
- You have been warned by your landlord that if the problem continues you will be evicted
- You have been given a notice of eviction
- You are having a problem... family, money etc... that is making it hard to keep your housing but you don't know where to go to get help
- You are having a problem with a neighbour that isn't getting any better
- You need information about a community program or service
- You can call or email the Community Liaison Worker directly to talk li>
- You can also speak to your housing manager and have them make the call li>
